Open call: Reimagine the sounds of Sri Lanka

City and Memory

WSri Lanka skylinee’re looking for sound artists to help us reimagine and recompose the sounds of Sri Lanka

Thanks to Stéphane Marin (Espaces Sonores), we have an amazing collection of field recordings from Sri Lanka.

Ranging from calls to prayer and temple musicians to recordings of monkeys, insects, dawn choruses and shrimps underwater, the sounds reveal the very essence of Sri Lanka.

There’s a limited pool of recordings available, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you’re interested get in touch now!

How it works

We’ll send interested artists a pool of recordings to choose from, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

You’ll then have four weeks to complete a reimagined piece using your chosen field recording – these will be presented on a bespoke interactive sound map of Sri Lanka on Cities and Memory during May.

Sounds must be supplied as WAV or AIFF, less than 20 minutes in length, containing the original field recording or elements of it – otherwise you are free to be inspired by the field recordings to create something brand new. We’ll also need a title for your piece, and a few sentences describing your approach and inspiration for it.…/04/open-call-sri-lanka-sounds/.
