We are looking for contributors to send us recordings of the wind, for inclusion in a digital recreation of a sound sculpture by artist Mike Blow.

Description
We are creating a web-based version of the work Aeolus’ Cabinet (2015) by Mike Blow. The original work is based on a vintage index card cabinet which has been modified and is exhibited as a sonic sculpture. When each of the drawers is opened it triggers a recording of the wind to play from within it. There is a different wind sound for each drawer and it is possible to play multiple sounds simultaneously to create unique compositions. Each drawer is labelled with the name of the wind it ‘contains’.
The online work will be a virtual 3D model / game of the original cabinet, accessible through a web browser, that will operate in the same way as the real thing. Each of the virtual drawers will be assigned a wind recording sound. Opening the drawers will trigger the sounds, and display information about the recording and a bio of the contributor.
As the pandemic has limited opportunities for showing the original work we have secured funding to make an online version of the cabinet. This exciting opportunity will allow us to broaden the scope of the project by:
- involving collaborators from around the world by asking them to send recordings of the wind for inclusion in the project,
- supplementing the wind recordings with extra information such as location, details and photos about the wind and the recording, and a biography of the person who submitted the recording,
- reaching a larger and more diverse audience than with the physical object.
What we are looking for:
1) A good quality sound recording of the wind, around 5 minutes in length and in wav format. Recordings of famous winds with names are especially desirable. The direct actions of the wind on objects is perfectly acceptable; whistling around buildings or through trees, making flags flap or boat rigging sing, leaves skittering along the ground, and so on.
2) A single-paragraph description of the recording; where it was recorded, the name of the wind or storm if it has one, any story connected with the recording.
3) The name and a photo of the recording site if you have one, and/or a latitude and longitude location.
4) A single-paragraph bio.
Payment
For the recording / information as specified above, we will pay: - 100 gbp (UK pounds) for an existing recording that you already have in your collection
- 250 gbp plus reasonable expenses for a special trip to capture a specific wind. We are especially interested in ‘named’ winds, e.g. Mistral, Chinook, Ghibli, Freemantle Doctor etc
Conditions
All submissions will be checked and we reserve the right to reject any that are deemed unsuitable (e.g. in terms of content or quality).
Fees will be paid until the budget we have for contributions is used up. Submissions will be assessed and payment made on a first come first serve basis.

Descriptif de la description
Nous sommes en train de créer une version web du travail Aeolus’ Cabinet (2015) de Mike Blow. L ‘ œuvre originale est basée sur une armoire à cartes index vintage qui a été modifiée et exposée comme une sculpture sonique. Lorsque chacun des tiroirs est ouvert, cela déclenche un enregistrement du vent pour jouer de l’intérieur. Il y a un son de vent différent pour chaque tiroir et il est possible de jouer plusieurs sons simultanément pour créer des compositions uniques. Chaque tiroir est étiqueté avec le nom du vent qu’il contient.
Le travail en ligne sera un modèle / jeu virtuel 3 D du cabinet d’origine, accessible via un navigateur web, qui fonctionnera de la même manière que la vraie chose. Chacun des tiroirs virtuels se verra attribuer un son d’enregistrement de vent. L ‘ ouverture des tiroirs déclenchera les sons, et affichera des informations sur l’enregistrement et une bio du contributeur.
Étant donné que la pandémie a limité les opportunités de montrer le travail original, nous avons obtenu un financement pour faire une version en ligne du cabinet. Cette opportunité passionnante nous permettra d’élargir la portée du projet en :
- impliquant des collaborateurs du monde entier en leur demandant d’envoyer des enregistrements du vent pour être inclus dans le projet,
- complétant les enregistrements du vent avec des informations supplémentaires telles que l’emplacement, les détails et les photos sur le vent et l’enregistrement, ainsi qu’une biographie de la personne qui a envoyé l’enregistrement,
- atteindre un public plus large et plus diversifié qu’avec l’objet physique.
Ce que nous recherchons :
1) Un enregistrement sonore de bonne qualité du vent, environ 5 minutes de longueur et en format wav. Les enregistrements de vents célèbres avec des noms sont particulièrement souhaitables. Les actions directes du vent sur les objets sont parfaitement acceptables ; siffler autour des bâtiments ou à travers les arbres, faire chanter les drapeaux ou le gréement de bateau, laisser des skitter le long du sol, etc.
2) Une description unique de l’enregistrement ; où il a été enregistré, le nom du vent ou de la tempête s’il en a un, toute histoire liée à l’enregistrement.
3) Le nom et une photo du site d’enregistrement si vous en avez un, et / ou un emplacement de latitude et de longitude.
4) Un seul paragraphe bio.
Paiement de paiement
Pour l’enregistrement / les informations précisées ci-dessus, nous paierons : - 100 gbp (livres britanniques) pour un enregistrement existant que vous avez déjà dans votre collection
- 250 gbp plus frais raisonnables pour un voyage spécial pour capturer un vent spécifique. Nous sommes particulièrement intéressés par les vents ′′ nommés par exemple Mistral, Chinook, Ghibli, Freemantle Doctor etc.
Conditions d’utilisation
Toutes les soumissions seront vérifiées et nous nous réservons le droit de rejeter toutes les soumissions jugées inappropriées (par exemple en termes de contenu ou de qualité).
Les frais seront payés jusqu’à ce que le budget que nous avons pour les contributions soit utilisé. Les soumissions seront évaluées et le paiement sera effectué selon le principe du premier arrivé premier servi.
